AIGA Leadership Conference Recap

AIGA Leadership Conference Recap

Last week I was incredibly fortunate to be invited to attend the AIGA Leadership Retreat, thanks to Julie Anixter and my friends at MAGA Design. I have partnered with MAGA on several projects, and they are big sponsors and supporters of AIGA at a local and national level. Julie, who is the newly appointed Executive Director of AIGA and a former MAGAteer asked that I attend the conference to help capture the content of the discussions and do some ethnographic research on what more AIGA can do for it's members. She has really big goals to make an already amazing organization even greater, and it is an honor to be a part of the conversation. Take a look below to read through some of the content and conversations that took place!

Sketchtnote Army Podcast

In case you missed it, I was this week's featured guest on Mike Rohde's Sketchnote Army podcast. I was honored to be invited as his third ever guest for the show, and really enjoyed our conversation. Over the past year or two several people that I have met in the field of data visualization or visual thinking have told me that I should connect with Mike because we would have a lot to talk about...they were right! You can listen to the full podcast through the link above, on SoundCloud, on the Sketchnote Army website, or subscribe through iTunes.

Get Over Yourselves, Designers

Get Over Yourselves, Designers

A few months ago my friend RJ told me that I should check follow Jennifer Daniel on Twitter. Since then, I've enjoyed her work in the New York Times and Medium, and have developed a great appreciation for her clever and un-serious online presence. This week she tweeted her Creative Mornings SF talk for the series on Shock, and it was one of the most refreshing and thought provoking talks on design I have heard in a while.

Dot Gov Design Doodles

Dot Gov Design Doodles

Last week I was invited through MAGA Design to capture sketchnotes throughout the second annual DotGov Design conference, an AIGA sponsored event for designers supporting government entities. Since starting my business last fall I have felt so much more connected with the local design community, but this event took that feeling to a whole new level. I learned about amazing work coming out of organizations that I didn't even know existed, and I met some incredibly talented and dedicated people. Here is a gallery of my digital sketchnotes with some commentary about what it was like to record each presentation.

TEDxCIA Recap

TEDxCIA Recap

Speaking at TEDxCIA was an amazing experience. I was incredibly honored to be invited to speak, especially once I learned that I would be in the company of Simon SinekApollo RobbinsAsh BeckhamTaylor Berrett, and the leaders of NextJump. This was my first TEDx, and really the first talk I have given to such a large and broad audience. In the past I have spoken at small meet up groups and conferences, or just to a camera. I was honestly pretty terrified about the idea but knew it was an opportunity that I should not pass up.
